Cuesta College is gearing up to hold its annual fundraiser for the school’s cross country and track and field programs – the City to the Sea Half Marathon and 5K. The event, expected to draw as many as 2,500 participants, is set for Sunday, October 12, 2014.
Participants in the half marathon will hit the pavement at 7 a.m. at Higuera and Court streets in downtown San Luis Obispo and end at Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo Beach. Those running the 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m. and a Kids’ Fun Run will start at 8:30 a.m. – both will take place at Dinosaur Caves Park.
This year, select streets from Higuera through streets in Pismo Beach will be subject to closure as racers make their way through the course. Event organizers are encouraging the public to take alternate driving routes that morning.
The City to the Sea Half Marathon and 5K has been an institution on the Central Coast since its debut in 1995. The funds raised by the original event allowed Cuesta to build the Fairbanks Cross Country course, which is still enjoyed by the college and surrounding communities today. Proceeds from this year’s race will help ensure that the college’s track athletes can continue training and racing in the school’s premier cross country and track and field programs.
