Tickets on sale for a special reading of his latest book, Come of Age
–Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice SLO County) invites community members to attend Come of Age: Reading and Reportage with Canadian author Stephen Jenkinson on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. This event will take place at The Monday Club, 1815 Monterey St, San Luis Obispo.
The San Luis Obispo community is excited to welcome back Harvard-educated theologian and author Stephen Jenkinson to share his upcoming book, Come of Age: The Case for Elderhood in a Time of Trouble. The book will be released on July 3, 2018. During the evening, he will share excerpts from the book, which explores the absence of elderhood in modern society, and discuss the need for a new generation of elders to become the stewards of the planet.
“Elders are a sentinel species for humanness, and like other forms of life in our corner of the world they’ve mysteriously gone missing,” said author Stephen Jenkinson, MTS, MSW. “Young people are, often involuntarily, looking for them, and they can’t find them. How about this: old people are looking for them too.”
In 2016, Jenkinson visited the Central Coast for a reading of his award-winning book Die Wise: A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul (2015) at Hospice SLO County’s office in San Luis Obispo. He was also a guest of the 2015 San Luis Obispo International Film Festival for a special screening of Griefwalker (2008), a feature film length documentary that follows the author’s poignant work with dying people.
Together with Hospice SLO County, Jenkinson invites young people, old people and elders in training to join in for this special evening. Tickets are available for $25/presale and $30 at the door. Students and seniors tickets are $20.
