On The Beach Bed & Breakfast offers the ultimate getaway
Looking for a romantic seaside getaway? Consider booking a room at On The Beach Bed & Breakfast, an upscale 14-room hotel located right at the foot of the historic Cayucos pier and steps away from the sand and surf.
When On The Beach owners Richard and Debbie Shannon and Rick Rengel purchased the bed and breakfast, they set out to make it the most romantic beach-front hotel around. Cayucos, considered one of the last true California beach towns, boasts a moderate climate – visitors enjoy strolling along the sand, surfing, kayaking, fishing, visiting nearby restaurants, bakeries, wineries and more.
“The hotel originally had a Victorian décor,” Richard explained, “and now we have a more Mediterranean look. Since we purchased On The Beach, we added a commercial kitchen and serve a full hot breakfast every morning.”
Chef Maureen Handshy whips up creative dishes for guests each day including crème brûlée French toast, Eggs Benedict, frittatas, Belgian waffles, and more – a different menu is featured every day.
The spacious rooms feature king and queen single beds as well as queen doubles; nine rooms have a full ocean view and others have mountain or town views. Luxury bedding includes pillow top mattresses, 100 percent cotton linens and feather/down comforters and pillows. All rooms have a gas fireplace, mini-fridge, microwave, TV with DVD and free movies, oversized Jacuzzi tub, luxury bath amenities and more. The honeymoon suite contains an oversize four-poster bed.
“A lot of people get engaged here,” Richard said, alluding to the romantic ambiance. “We have a lot of honeymoon couples stay with us, as well as folks celebrating anniversaries.”
Outdoor features are just what one would expect from an upscale beachfront hotel: an outdoor ocean view deck, lounge chairs and tables situated next to a hot tub spa, as well as an outdoor barbecue grill for guests to cook their catch of the day.
On The Beach is a favorite getaway for wine tasters visiting the Central Coast wine region. According to Richard, guests of the hotel receive wine tasting cards that allow free tasting at more than 30 area wineries. In addition, guests are invited to enjoy a showcased wine from a local winery, locally brewed beers, and a selection of hors d’oeuvres in the lobby area near the fireplace from 5-6 p.m. each evening.
Ready for that getaway? Enjoy a special two-night getaway package, Sunday through Thursday nights, with a beach level ocean view room and a complimentary bottle of wine. San Luis Obispo County residents will enjoy a Friends and Family Discount during their stay – 10 percent off weekends, 20 percent off weekdays.
