Play disc golf at Castoro's Whale Rock Course
Castoro Cellars Vineyards & Winery opened its state-of- the-art 18-hole disc golf course
and informational ranch tour in the summer of 2014. “The course
is played every day,” and it’s, “very rare a day goes by where there’s not a group,” said Special Projects Man- ager and Distiller Max Udsen. “On the weekends we get 50-75 players regularly, and more depending on the weekend.”
Players can view the Whale Rock Vineyard and learn about many aspects of Castoro Cellars while they tour this two-mile loop through the vines. The course is described as, “fun for all levels
yet challenging to the expert, and completely family ready.”
The Paso Robles disc golf course is located near the tasting room fa- cility, on Hwy 46 West, in Castoro’s CCOF organically farmed and Sustainability In Practice (SIP) Cer-
tified Whale Rock Vineyard. This disc course suits all levels, from the, “never thrown a disc before novice” to the “long drive throwing expert.”
Check-in is at the tasting room and hours of operation are 10
a.m. – 5 p.m. A course map, disc rental and information are available upon check-in. The course is free to wine club members, and $5 to non-members. Baskets are rotated bimonthly, on the 1st and the 15th. The course is also available to rent out for private events.
What is disc golf?
Played much like traditional golf, disc golf uses a disc instead
of a ball and clubs. The intent of
the game is to throw a disc into an elevated metal basket. The player moves from “tee” to “hole” and terrain changes over the fair-
ways, which provides challenging obstacles. Ultimately, the “putt” is tossed into the basket and the hole is completed. The goal of disc golf is to complete the course in the fewest number of shots.
