Harriet Tubman Honored in San Luis Obispo Master Chorale’s season finale
—San Luis Obispo Master Chorale announces its final 2017-18 concert, featuring Dr. Ron Kean’s recently composed multi-media work, The Journey of Harriet Tubman—based on the life of this extraordinary woman in American history—and Johannes Brahms’ powerful Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem).
This matinee performance will be Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., in Harman Hall at the San Luis Obispo Performing Arts Center on the Cal Poly campus. For tickets ($10-$50), visit slomasterchorale.org or call Cal Poly Tickets at (805) 756-4849.
Ron Kean, Bakersfield College Emeritus Professor of Music after completing 30 years of teaching, has composed numerous choral works that have been performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and Australia. For many years he studied West African drumming with Ghanaian master drummer Samuel Kwaku Daddy; these studies influenced the writing of The Journey of Harriet Tubman.
Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem is a large-scale work for chorus, soloists, and orchestra. The San Luis Obispo Master Chorale and orchestra will be joined by guest artists Jill Miller Burdick, soprano, and Steven Pence, bass-baritone.
