Japan Airlines has begun serving Peachy Canyon Winery’s 2011 Westside Zinfandel on their international business class routes starting from early August 2014. The wine has been introduced in business class on routes in Asia, North America, Oceania and other major destinations.
Japan Airlines selected wines for 2014 from a group of over 1000 wines proposed by importers and wineries from all over the world. Wines that passed the first review on paper were then put through a blind tasting panel for final selection. Ms. Fumiko Arisaka, a leading wine journalist in Japan, and fifteen JAL in-flight staff whom have achieved Sommelier certificate status participated in the blind tasting to choose the final wines.
In the category of Business Class Red Wine World Category other than Pinot Noir and Cabernet, the blind tasting panel selected Peachy Canyon Winery’s 2011 Westside Zinfandel for service beginning in the summer of 2014. The wine will be served for approximately six months.
The California State Wine Competition awarded the 2011 Zinfandel with a 95-point rating and Best of Class designation, in addition to two 90-point ratings awarded from Wine Enthusiast and Stephan Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar.
Peachy Canyon Winery is located in the western part of Paso Robles. The vineyards are 100-percent sustainably farmed and all fruit for the 2011 Westside was selected from estate owned vineyards. The 2011 Westside exhibits a lingering long-lasting flavor that is well balanced with a smooth, elegant finish.
Doug Beckett, owner of Peachy Canyon Winery and a specialist of zinfandel in Paso Robles for over 25 years comments, “Peachy Canyon Winery is proud to have partnered with Japan Airlines to share our 2011 West Side Zinfandel with JAL’s most valued clients. With this partnership, Peachy Canyon and Japan Airlines will together bring the finest of the Paso Robles, California AVA to clients both in the sky and around the world.”
Westside Zinfandel 2011 Tasting Notes:
This deep purple powerhouse opens with dark chocolate, raspberries and cedar on the nose and boysenberry, toffee and nutmeg on the palate. With white pepper notes, its bold structure and refreshing acidity support a hint of smoky oak lead into a finish of dark cherries.
