Employing coiling techniques and long-leaf pine needles, this art form has remained virtually the same for hundreds of years.
Bear earned a masters degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University, Santa Barbara. She owned and operated Dream Weaver, a store in Santa Barbara that carried a variety of hand woven products. She combined her love of weaving and pine needle basketry to produce uniquely designed works of art. Her baskets have been displayed in the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden store and galleries in California and New Mexico.
Connect with the smells, texture and beauty of nature as we learn the art of basket weaving. During this workshop, Bear will guide students through the traditional technique of coiling used by ancient cultures. You’ll start two baskets, one to complete in class and another for practice at home. Each piece is a work of art as unique as the person who makes them.
These make great Valentine’s Day gifts filled with treats for your special someone. Bring scissors (sharp, please!) and a bag lunch. All other materials are provided.
