—RoCoco Luxe Resale & Boutique is a French-style clothing boutique in the up and coming downtown arts district of Atascadero. Opened at the beginning of 2019, RoCoco Luxe is the brainchild of fashion-loving Atascadero native Lanée Mari Baxter and her husband, Dennis Baxter. A lifelong appreciation for natural materials, beautiful style, and great customer service may have been started by her grandmother, Doris McGrath, teaching her as a young girl about quality garments. Her grandmother was a professional seamstress and taught Lanée and her mother, Carol Ball, to sew.
RoCoco Luxe is a treasure trove full of great finds and many gently used or new clothes at cost-conscious prices. Besides just beautiful clothing, the shop specializes in shoes, jewelry, purses, and gifts. Expect to discover a fantastic variety of items and sizes. Peruse the repurposed iron pipe racks full of well-organized garments, and try on one of a kind pieces. Seek out the perfect gift and discover great smelling candles, beautiful art, and eye-catching accessories.
For a small store, it stands out, and Lanée had a local interior designer come in to make it a decadent European style. The Wallpaper in the shop is inspired by the Dutch Master art, and romantic era of the Rococo period, Baxter said, “That RoCoco time period was lavish and ornamental in style, and decadence of French royalty, thus the focus on texture and unique qualities of well-made clothing.” Lanée continued, “My store attracts amazing women daily- powerful, positive women with great lives and stories. This boutique has become a social destination for women and it is free from pressure, a place where women empower other women by loving what they wear and loving their bodies for where they are today. We focus on what we love about ourselves here. Feeling good about themselves and how they are unique is important.”
In March, RoCoco Luxe Resale & Boutique is celebrating their 1 year anniversary. Visitors from all over love to stop into the shop and the surrounding downtown businesses. Being located between The Carlton Hotel and The Book Odyssey, Lanée is proud to have a group of great merchants, restaurants, and lodgings around her. Atascadero is a laid back central hub and jumping-off point on the Central Coast. Lanée said, “It has some great affordable prices on hotels, and visitors can easily drive to Cambria, Pismo, Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo from here, and wineries are just a 10 – 20 min. drive.”
Lanée prides herself on warm, friendly, customer service. She has grown up with an eye for quality construction and looks carefully for unique apparel. She said, “I tell every woman, if you don’t love it, don’t buy it. We really focus on women feeling good in the clothing they wear. Nowadays, many brands are focused on fast fashion and not things that last.” Relish in their wide variety of clothing and apparel made with fine fabrics, chic styles, and adventurous comfort. Every Friday they serve “grapes in a glass” and chocolate w a new rotating discount until 7:30 p.m. It is a social affair, and a fun opportunity to be out and about in Atascadero’s blossoming downtown. The success of the store is down to one thing, according to Lanée. “If you love what you wear, you’ll tell your friends to come by. We help women feel beautiful inside and out, and people leave the store saying, ‘Thank you, please stay!’ The locals and tourists alike are ready for good shopping here and want to be a part of the sustainable fashion movement by buying resale and consignment items.” RoCoco Luxe is excited to be a part of the fact that Atascadero has become a unique destination for fabulous shopping and dining.
