–To encourage hikers to explore new trails, the City of San Luis Obispo’s Parks and Recreation team will offer the popular #PixOnPeaks Hiking Challenge for the third year in a row.

Hiking is not only healthy, but also offers spectacular views of San Luis Obispo. Fortunately, San Luis Obispo has many trails, including some that even the most ardent hikers have not explored. With that in mind, Parks employees created the #PixOnPeaks Challenge.

The department’s Open Space Team identified seven local peaks ideal for photos that can be shared on Instagram. At each spot, hikers are asked to take a selfie or group photo, then tag the photo with the hashtag #PixOnPeaks, along with a hashtag for the location of the shot. When all seven photos are taken, hikers may drop by the Parks and Recreation office (1341 Nipomo Street) to show their photos and pick up a free #PixOnPeaks hat.

Those wishing to participate who do not have an Instagram account may show their camera or phone photos to a Parks and Recreation staff member in lieu of using the hashtag.

The challenge begins June 1.

The photo locations are:
Allen K Settle at Laguna Lake Park – Photo at kiosk
Terrace Hill – Photo at tree growing out of the rock
Bob Jones Trail – Photo at wetland kiosk in SLO
Kings Trail in Irish Hills – Photo at bench
Lemon Grove Loop on Cerro San Luis – photo at lemon trees
Reservoir Canyon Loop – Enter from Reservoir Canyon Rd photo at bench,
