Step back in time at Caledonia Days on Saturday

– The 2015 Caledonia Days and Dutch Oven Cook-off is this Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rios-Caledonia Adobe, located at 700 S. Mission St. across from the Mission in San Miguel.

The community is invited to take a step back in time and enjoy bygone ways of bygone days at this family-friendly event. The day will feature Dutch oven cooking and tastings, barbecued foods, wine, and baked goods available for purchase, music, skilled artisans and craftsmen, displays of small engines, collections from local rock enthusiasts, and more.

The public is invited to come on out and enjoy Caledonia Days with friends and neighbors. This annual event is sponsored by Friends of the Adobes, and The Native Sons of the Golden West, San Miguel Chapter.

On Sunday, Sept 27, the mission will be celebrating its 218th anniversary with their annual fiesta and barbecue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mission San Miguel Arcangel, located at 775 Mission Street in San Miguel, will celebrate its 218th anniversary with their annual fiesta and barbecue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Mission Fiesta Grounds on Sunday, Sept. 27– the Sunday nearest the feast day of mission patron St. Michael the Archangel on Sept. 29.

The Fiesta Mass will be celebrated in the church at 7 a.m. After Mass, Pastor Father Pedro Umana will bless the food and the day of festivities. From 8-10 a.m. breakfast burritos will be on sale. Dinners will be sold from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a choice of barbecued beef or chicken, fiesta beans, salad, salsa and bread, or a Mexican plate of pork tacos el pastor, rice and fiesta beans, or a Filipino plate of adobo, pansit and lumpia. All dinners are $12 for adults and $8 for children under 10. Desserts, beer, wine, sodas, water and aguas frescas will be sold. No coolers allowed.

There will be live music, games for the children, a 50/50 raffle, a live auction and a horse show. At 9 a.m. a special Spanish mass will be held with music by a visiting children’s choir, Angles de la Banda, who will also sing during the fiesta.

On Saturday, the 2015 Caledonia Days and Dutch Oven Cook-off is taking place at the Rios-Caledonia Adobe, located at 700 South Mission St., located near the mission.
