‘Organ Spectacular’ features thrilling performances of Brahms, Jongen and more
—On Oct. 5, symphony goers will get to experience the awe-inspiring power of the Forbes Organ, one of the most remarkable instruments in the world. San Luis Obispo Symphony is rolling out the red carpet for its 2024/25 Classics season at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo with “Organ Spectacular,” an unforgettable concert featuring acclaimed organ virtuoso Felix Hell as the soloist. There will be a red carpet and photographer at the opening-night event, as well as a pre-concert discussion with the guest artist at 6:30 p.m. that is included with event tickets.
The Forbes Organ is a world-class concert organ with over 2,700 pipes, housed in the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo. Its impressive range and power make it one of the most sought-after organs for performers worldwide, adding an unparalleled dimension to classical concerts in the region.

At the heart of the program is Belgian composer Joseph Jongen’s iconic Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 81, showcasing the Forbes Organ’s grandeur and versatility. The Forbes Organ is a rare treasure with immense cultural value; an instrument that can be experienced in only a handful of concert halls across the world. The evening includes Ravel’s Menuet Antique, a delicate yet stirring dance piece that opens the concert with a touch of nostalgia. The night concludes with the passionate sweep of Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, a masterpiece of sublime emotion and depth.
Founded in 1961, SLO Symphony is an artistic, economic, educational, and community-minded nonprofit serving the Central Coast of California. Its mission supports an outstanding community orchestra, fosters symphonic and chamber music education, and contributes to the cultural and economic vitality of the Central Coast community. The orchestra’s season includes the annual performance of “Pops” at Avila Beach, a bi-annual New Year’s Eve Pops concert, and occasional chamber opportunities in more intimate venues.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.
