–Villa San-Juliette Vineyard & Winery has launched the Central Coast’s first wine country helicopter excursions. The stunning Mediterranean gardens at the estate serve as the takeoff point for helicopter rides of four people per trip, with trips lasting 10 to 15 minutes.
Helicopter operator, Del Rio Aviation, flies high above the property, showcasing beautiful rolling hills of vineyards, the northern end of the Paso Robles Wine Country, and the elegant VSJ villa and winemaking facility.
Local pilot Joe Kingman flies the tours while his wife Christina safely ushers riders to and from the helicopter, seeing that they are buckled in tight. The helicopter has had it’s doors removed, “We just had to,” said Christina. The door-less helicopter provides for stunning vistas and ample opportunities for photography enthusiasts. Joe glides the helicopter smoothly, noting nearby vineyards and estates as you pass overhead. You may be tempted to stick your arm out the window as you soar like a bird over the beautiful rolling hills of the Estrella District.
Afterward, guests are encouraged to stay and enjoy the view from the villa and sample some of VSJ’s award-winning wines. The winery also offers carefully crafted decadent small bites that pair wonderfully with their estate and reserve wines. These small bites are offered daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Helicopter trips are $60 per person, $50 for Reserve Wine Club members.
Villa San-Juliette is located at 6385 Cross Canyons Road, in San Miguel. They are open Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays by appointment only. For more information or to make a reservation, call the winery tasting room at (805) 226-5838.
