Find cookies and frozen custard galore at various locations
—The Brown Butter Cookie Company has brought sweet treats to the Central Coast since 2008; sisters Traci and Christa Hozie started the business at their flagship Cayucos store, later opening the Paso Robles location in 2013 and their newest store in San Luis Obispo in 2019.
From its humble beginnings as a local favorite, the company’s signature Original Brown Butter Sea Salt cookie quickly gained widespread acclaim, necessitating the launch of an online store to meet national demand.
Step into the Paso Robles store, located across from the Downtown City Park, and smell the sugary delights. Try one of the daily samples of the Brown Sutter Sea Salt cookies; some delectable flavors available for purchase include cocoa, pecan, or cocoa mint.
“Our hand-rolled Original Brown Butter Sea Salt cookie remains our top-selling flavor due to the signature flavor profile of vanilla, brown butter, and sea salt. In March 2024, we introduced the Zesty Lemon Brown Butter Sea Salt cookie as our Flavor of the Year, which quickly became a new fan favorite. Our classic-style cookies, known for their large size and satisfying texture with crispy edges and chewy centers, also have a dedicated following,” said Hartzell, noting that customer favorites include chocolate chunk, snickerdoodle, and lemon sugar.
Don’t leave without having a cup of the new Brown Butter Frozen Custard, which is the perfect summer dish. No artificial ingredients are used in the making, ensuring a high-quality custard; in addition, Southern California business Scott Bros. Dairy provides the milk.
The Brown Butter Frozen Custard represents the ongoing commitment to innovation while staying true to Brown Butter Cookie Company’s classic flavor profile and quality standards; the Made with Ghirardelli® Shortbread Cookies pair sweetly with the frozen custard.
Make sure to pick up fabulous gift bags and boxes for loved ones, available from three packs to double-dozen sizes.
All cookies are made on the Central Coast. While the flagship Cayucos shop continues to be a hub of cookie-making activity, they have also expanded with a new production facility in Atascadero to keep up with the demand of the online shop.
“We invite everyone, whether you’re a local or a visitor, to indulge in this perfect blend of rich flavors and coastal charm. Whether you’re in Cayucos, Paso Robles, or San Luis Obispo, you’ll always find a warm welcome and a delicious treat waiting for you,” said Hartzell.
