Sparkling jewel in downtown Paso Robles
Just across the street from the Paso Robles Downtown City Park there’s a continuous crowd streaming in and out of one corner store – Siegel’s. On the front door there’s a whimsical sign that reads “Jewelry & Wine…Life is Fine.”
Curious, you walk in and are immediately greeted as though you’re part of the family in this warm, welcoming environment. Siegel’s is a kid-friendly, dog-friendly jewelry store complete with a wine tasting bar and so much more. An extensive bridal ring selection, estate jewelry, coins, sterling and turquoise, birthstones and watches all adorn the shelves and colorful cases.
“It’s a treasure hunt-type of environment,” explains owner Ken Siegel. “We offer an interesting, diverse mix which people seem to enjoy. What doesn’t change is our strong desire for our customers to have that same positive experience each time they come in.”
Jewelry, wines, & more
The original Siegel’s, still running strong today by the family, opened in 1940 in Cedar Rapids, IA. When Ken and Kris were out to visit their son Josh on their 25th wedding anniversary, they came upon a deal on some beautiful showcases and safes from a jeweler in Menlo Park, CA that had just closed its doors. A few days later, visiting the quaint little wine town of Paso Robles, Ken found a corner retail space vacated a few weeks ago earlier by a winery – and the rest is history.
Frolicking Frog Cellars, founded in 2003, is alive and well in the growing Paso Robles Wine Country region. Winemaker Stu Goldman, also once a goldsmith in a jewelry store, offers such regional favorites as Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Merlot blends inside Siegel’s. Open Thursday through Saturday from Noon to 6 p.m., this additional offering adds something even more unique to an already eclectic shopping experience.
Unique selections
As a jeweler and pawnbroker, Siegel’s offers a unique selection of designer and one-of-a-kind estate jewelry at up to 50-70 percent below retail pricing. Family-owned and operated, the highly-trained staff at Siegel’s offers free layaway and financing options on all of their items. They also offer watch repair services.
“Each person who walks into our store is treated like an individual and treated respectfully,” mentions Ken. “We appreciate our customers who choose to spend money locally, we offer the shopping experience and first class service they desire and we don’t run on commission.”
